Treatment Approach
My specialty is treating pain, both emotional and physical, especially anxiety and PTSD, though I am skilled and able to treat most complaints. I like to include some bodywork in my treatments because I find folks are more relaxed for acupuncture treatment afterwards.
People often ask, what is acupuncture good for? The easiest answer is everything. Acupuncture is rooted in a healing tradition spanning thousands of years, encompassing practices such as massage (tuina), Chinese herbal medicine, dietary therapy, and qi gong (similar to movements in tai chi). Within this system, there is a remedy or a palliation for most ailments. Which is to say, we can most often help a complaint, if we can't cure it.
Bio
I have been a faculty member and teacher at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine for over a decade. Before I was licensed as an acupuncturist, I was licensed to practice Swedish massage in 1990. In acupuncture school, I was trained in tuina, a Chinese medical massage style focused on orthopedics and Jin Shin Do, an acupressure style. I have also studied shiatsu and sotai, both Japanese massage styles. I have taught acupuncture techniques for 18 years and am able to accommodate most patients’ needs for different styles of treatment.
